Okay, so the other day, I was thinking, “I want something healthy but also easy to make.” I remembered my mom used to make this rice and lentil thing, and it was always pretty good. I figured, why not try making it myself? I’ve got a rice cooker, which pretty much does everything for me. So, I decided to give it a shot.
Get the Stuff Ready
First things first, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I grabbed a bag of lentils from the cupboard and, of course, some rice. I measured out one cup of lentils. Then, I measured out two cups of water. The internet said the ratio should be like two to one, water to lentils.

Cook the Lentils
I dumped the lentils into the rice cooker and poured in the water. I closed the lid, pressed the “cook” button, and just walked away. The rice cooker is like magic, it knows what to do. After about 20 minutes, I checked on the lentils. They were soft but not mushy, which is exactly how I wanted them.
Add the Rice
While the lentils were doing their thing, I rinsed one cup of white rice under cold water. Once the lentils were ready, I added the rinsed rice to the cooker. I also poured in another two cups of water. I figured, since the lentils were already cooked, I just needed to cook the rice as usual.
Season and Wait
I sprinkled in some salt and a little bit of pepper. You can add whatever spices you like, but I kept it simple this time. Then, I closed the lid again, hit the “cook” button, and waited. The rice cooker is great because you don’t have to watch it or stir anything.
Fluff and Serve
After another 20 minutes or so, the rice cooker clicked off, signaling it was done. I opened the lid and used a fork to fluff up the rice and lentils. It smelled pretty good, I must say.
I scooped some onto a plate and took a bite. It was warm, filling, and tasted just like I remembered. The rice was fluffy, and the lentils added a nice texture. It wasn’t fancy, but it was a good, solid meal.

Making this rice and lentils dish in the rice cooker was super easy. It’s one of those meals you can just set and forget. Plus, it’s healthy and doesn’t cost much to make. I’ll definitely be making this again.
